September News

The History Society had a most enjoyable August meeting during which we reviewed a selection of artefacts from our archives, including original Appledore halfpenny tokens dating back to 1794, photographs of old Appledore, and two lovely local interest scrapbooks which were compiled by the Appledore Young Wives between 1969 and 1982.

Our guided tour of the Brenzett Aeronautical Museum is all set for Sunday 8th September.  Tickets are £4 each and non-members are very welcome to join us.  Transport is available but places are limited – please contact Jo at secalhs@gmail.com if you are interested in coming along.

Two of our members are busy gathering documents to build a picture of the history of the old Swan Hotel. If you have any information or photographs (particularly interior shots) we would love to hear from you. The wrestler Danny Lynch was landlord of the Swan for eight years, and anything you can tell us about his time there would be much appreciated. Please email Jo at secalhs@gmail.com if you can help.

We continue to digitalise records and artefacts from our Archives, (for Inclusion in Community Chest) and undertake assignments on behalf of local residents who have requested digital copies of family photograph albums etc.  If you have photographs, records etc that you would like copied and preserved in digital format, get in touch to see what we can do for you.  There is a nominal charge and no obligation for your photographs, records etc to be Included within Community Chest.

If you are interested in local history then please do come along to one of our meetings – you’ll find us at the Methodist Chapel on the second Thursday of every month at 7pm.
