July News

Mill Farm, Appledore Heath

During lockdown we have seen an increase in the number of enquiries from people with family links to Appledore looking to connect with their past.

Most recently we heard from Mr Jon Polden, who has fond memories of spending time with his grandparents at Mill Farm during the 1940’s and 1950’s.  Jon’s father, Frederick, was one of the many who fell during WW2, and his name appears on the Roll of Honour at our Church here in Appledore.

We discovered lots of information for Mr Polden, but we are still searching for photographs of Mill Farm, then and now, and if you can help us with this in any way, we would love to hear from you.

Suffragettes of Kent

Prior to lockdown we had been planning a talk by the Author Jennifer Godfrey on her new book, Suffragettes of Kent.  Since then Jenny has worked with Kent Archives to make a virtual book talk, and this is available free online at www.facebook.com/KentLibrariesArchives/.  In addition, Jenny has her own website, www.jennifergodfrey.co.uk, which is well worth a visit.

Memories of Appledore

If over the past few months, you have found yourself sorting through old photographs and documents featuring Appledore, or have memories of times gone by here, then please do consider sharing them with us for our archives.  We preserve everything we are given in digital format, and then return the originals safely to you.

If you can help with any of the above, or perhaps would like us to undertake some research for you, please email our Secretary, Jo, on secALHS@gmail.com, or call 758405.
