A roundup of ALHS projects since 2019
Since we are all still living with the effects of COVID-19 and the changes it has brought to our lives in the most unexpected ways, we at the Appledore Local History Society have not been able to follow our usual course of taking on projects which we hope help our community understand its history. Our usual pattern of meeting monthly in the Methodist Hall has stopped. Usually when we meet we are actively organising fund raising events and discussing where next we can best support the history of our community. Once agreed on the next project, we take those funds, along with our members’ fees and spend whatever we can on a new project, thus continuing our circular route to enriching our history as much as we can.
Of course that has stopped over the past year and we haven’t met at all. Zoom is not an option for several of our members, who are not comfortable using this kind of technology, so we have kept in touch via email when we can and promised that all will be back to normal, once we are over this crisis. We are still planning our next venture and hope to be able to continue very soon.
Meanwhile, our Secretary, Jo has put together a list of the projects we have undertaken since April 2019 (our last personally attended AGM). We share that list here and hope that you will see how much a few dedicated and enthusiastic people can achieve when they try.
