Appledore School Open Day
This past Saturday, 27th September 2025, the Appledore Village Hall was transformed into a living time capsule as the Appledore Local History Society hosted an Open Day celebrating the legacy of Appledore School.
From 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the hall welcomed a steady stream of visitors—former pupils, their families and friends—many of whom hadn’t seen each other in years.
The event was more than just a reunion; it was a celebration of shared history. Guests wandered through exhibits that traced the school’s journey from 1511 to 1991, leafing through scrapbooks, reading personal memories and spotting familiar faces in old photographs. A film from the late 1960s played continuously, offering glimpses of school outings, the opening of the swimming pool and a student-crafted model of Appledore Church.
One of the highlights was the book A History of Appledore School by Alan Tribe, which sparked the idea for the event. Copies were available to read or buy, and many attendees were thrilled to rediscover the school badge—an emblem that stirred fond memories.
With refreshments flowing and stories shared, the hall buzzed with warmth and nostalgia. The History Society was overwhelmed by the turnout and deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and support shown by the community.
It was a day to remember—and a reminder of the enduring spirit of Appledore School.
