The Results are in – on the Second Appledore History Society Open Day!

We were really pleased to see so many people on Saturday 12th March at our second Open Day since developing the Appledore Heritage Centre.

There was much browsing of scrapbooks of newspaper articles, old sales particulars of Appledore properties, and collections of photos from Appledore School etc in the main hall, whilst enjoying the free refreshments on offer and seeing the slide show of photographs from the past.

A little further into the Chapel building visitors took time to look at the various artefacts on display in the Heritage Centre, along with displays of ‘then and now’ photos of Appledore.

The Parish Magazine also opened the door to its current home, before production moves to the newly refurbished Village Hall.

If you couldn’t make it this time and would still like to see our collection of photos and artefacts, these will be updated and a display of Jubilee related items added for our Platinum Jubilee Celebration Open Day. The Methodist Chapel will be open for this on Friday 4th June, again with free entry and refreshments.

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely mostly upon members’ subscriptions, along with donations at events such as these to ensure our existence, and we would like to thank everyone who came along on the day to support us.

We are pleased to report that donations made at the Open Day were enough to fund EITHER keeping our website ‘live’ for another year, OR another four months’ use of the Methodist Chapel for storage and the Heritage Centre.
