The Appledore Spy & Two Spies

A fascinating look into the life of Charles de Salis, who once occupied Church House, with an addendum on Kenneth Benton, also also lived in Appledore.

We have nicknamed Charles ‘the Appledore Spy’ due to his intelligence work for the allies during WWII, but have recently learned of Kenneth Benton, also involved with espionage during WWII. It appears there was, therefore, a ‘Brace of Spies’ retired here after the War.
