April News
Thank You!
Firstly, a very big thank you to everyone who came along to help tidy up the Closed Cemetery on 2nd March! There were 20 Volunteers on site between 9:00am until about 1:00pm. A great impact was made, especially at the front of the churchyard. We believe that making this a regular thing, (perhaps 4 times a year), will keep the area in an appropriate state and demonstrate that the village has a respect for all who are buried there. There are some wonderful, impressive graves which could benefit from some regular TLC.
Your Village History Society Needs You!
We would love for you to come to one or both of our April events:
Annual General Meeting 18th April
We will be holding our AGM at The Methodist Chapel at 7:00 pm on Thursday 18th April. This meeting will include, the usual re-appointment/appointment of specific ALHS Officers and a summary of what we have achieved as a voluntary society during the year to March 2019 and an indication of our future plans
We will be having the social part of our AGM from approx. 8.15 pm at The Black Lion
You are welcome to join us at both parts of this event, if you are interested in learning what we do and maybe joining us, to participate in our varied projects and work that embraces all things related to the history of Appledore
Open Afternoon in the Village Hall Sunday 28th April
During Sunday 28th April, 2:00 pm to 4.30 pm, we shall present the data we have so far digitalised from our archives and other photos and artefacts that people have either donated or lent to us, in order for us to preserve them in digital format for future generations
We will have a slide show of some of the many photos of families, houses and events that have taken place over the years in Appledore
We will also have some photos where you might be able to help us identify individuals or families, so that we can attach more accurate information to photos on our database
There will of course be tea/coffee/cake available in return for a donation
